This place is crawling with crabs.

Ghost crabs. Hermit crabs. But my favorites are the ubiquitous Sally Lightfoot crabs. They’re everywhere. Unfortunately for this dead baby sea lion.

Not sure how they got their name, but maybe because they’re super speedy? These are among the only animals we saw in the Galapagos that go out of their way to avoid humans.

You just look at ‘em sideways and they retreat into some crevice. Which is too bad, since they’re gorgeous. Well, for crabs. Bright red/orange shells, blue underneath, and with rainbow colorings around their faces.

I hate spiders, but for some reason I could look at these things all day. Except when they’re frothing at the gills getting ready to moult.

Are you really going out like that, buddy? That’s OK—true friends love you no matter what you look like.
